Islamic Concerns: Sacrifice

Many Muslims see the topic of animal sacrifice as an integral part of their faith. However, there are a number of reasons why Muslims might consider alternative means of sacrifice and giving alms.

The articles and links below explore the issue of sacrifice and the possibility, even the necessity, of non-animal alternatives. This has already happened on several occasions, such as in Paris (see “fatwa” articles below) during the 2001 Eid al-Adha and in Morocco during the 1990s.

Al-Hafiz B.A. Masri writes in Animals in Islam (p. 117), that the well-known Sheikh Farid Wagdi wrote, “[T]here may come a day when Muslims shall have to substitute the rite of animal sacrifice with other methods of giving alms.”
